Life with Lydia

Lydia took swim lessons for the first time this month. I wouldn’t say she enjoyed it, though she has learned to LOVE the pool. At least she learned some of the skills needed for swimming and got more comfortable in the water. She mostly made up her own curriculum (i.e. played in the water), not wanting to follow the teacher’s instruction.

The most useful skill we gained in classes was that I learned how to teach her to swim. We’ll keep working on these skills this summer on our own.

Now that it’s summer, if we need to get some park time in, we have to go early. This week we went once at 8 am. By 7:30 it was obvious she needed to burn off some energy, so we packed up and went. She especially liked it because she had the toys and the park to herself for most of the visit.

I took Lydia to a crafting class last Friday, and she had so much fun!

When I told her we were going to school together she got excited. She immediately got and put on her baby and baby backpack that Sage handed down to her and walked straight to the door. She knew that the appropriate accessory for school is a backpack, as she’s learned from Curious George. She wore her pack and baby for most of the class. When she wasn’t wearing it, she hung it up (just like Curious George does).

The kids got to do lots of fun activities, and she made a cute present for Daddy for Father’s Day. We’ll go back again soon. Two Crafty Chicks is a great program.

Lydia talks about the pool with such excitement every morning when she wakes. And when she asks to play in the pool her eyes and face light up. So how can I not indulge her? Here she is enjoying pool time once again this afternoon!

We went to the zoo again today. The weather was beautiful! There were very few people there today, so we had it practically to ourselves.

It’s that time of year, well, it’s getting close anyway. It’s a warm enough afternoon today that we took out the kiddie pool for some summertime fun. Of course most of her time was spent getting in and out of the pool. Lydia loved it!
