Yesterday afternoon we had a fun playdate with my Zumba friends and their families (Jonnie, Chris, Kemet, Kristina, Matt, Reena, and Maria). First, we went to Medlock Park where the kids played ball and, best of all, flew a kite. Lydia LOVED it! She’d learned about flying kites at school, and yesterday she actually got to fly one! She giggled the whole time and was a pro flyer. Without instruction she even knew the pulling-the-arm-back move that helps keep the kite flying. She’s a natural! After the fun park activities we went to Everybody’s for dinner. We all had a great time and look forward to more playdates like this.

I’m pretty sure that Lydia’s favorite part of her party was when we sang happy birthday to her. Here she is reveling in the moment. (Click the link below.)

Lydia loves her cousins: Clay, Sage, and Gabriel. Gabriel is the smallest one. She loves playing with him and talking about him. When she sees him her pitch goes up, she smiles, puts her hands out (as if to hold him), and says “baaayyybee”. She had fun playing with him during our recent trip to Jax. And he was the perfect size for the shopping cart!

For Christmas Lydia got a mini-kitchen from Grandma Becky and a chef’s dress-up outfit from Aunt Theresa. She loves playing with them both. Here she is all decked out about a month ago…

Lydia is almost 2! Unbelievable. I know everyone says it, but, WOW, it’s crazy how quickly the time flies!

Last weekend we celebrated Lydia’s 2nd birthday a few weeks early. Having her party in Jacksonville worked out perfectly since lots of friends and family were able to join us.

The theme of Lydia’s party was Curious George. I know it’s not original, but it seemed fitting since his cartoon is her current favorite. I made Lydia a Curious George cake, and we had plenty of CG accoutrements. The cake was so much fun to make (and time-consuming, but who cares since I love doing it!). Thanks to Becky, Mom, and Papi for helping watch Lydia and with the making the masterpiece!

We also had a crafts table, which the kids (and adults) loved. The favorite craft was coloring the wooden animal magnets (with washable markers, of course!). We also had blank cards that they could decorate for Valentine’s Day. Crafts will definitely be part of our next party, too.

Lydia was a gracious host and had a ball at her party. The best part was her reaction to the birthday singing. She beamed through the whole song and asked for us to sing again! So we did. We would have sung to her for the remainder of the party if it had been up to her. :-D (I’ll post a video of her reaction when I get it prepped for viewing.) She was also precious opening her gifts, loving them all, and thanking everyone for each.

It was a super fun party. Thanks to all who helped make it a great success!

(Check back for more pix of the party, too.) More to come!

Lydia loves music. She especially loves listening to the CDs that accompany her music classes. Yesterday, while listening to one of her Learning Groove CDs, she pulled out her instruments and played along. She had a ball!

On the one warm day in Atlanta last week, after playing outside in all our usual spots, we switched it up and tried something new. We tailgated. In our carport. Just Lydia and me. This is just a fancy way of saying we played in the trunk and drank milk. Lydia had a ball!

Like a good little tica (knickname for someone from Costa Rica), Lydia loves black beans. Her Mama is proud. :-) Mashed (or dip, like she calls it), whole, in any form really. She loves it all.

Last week Lydia came up with another project. She always has a project going. This time she decided to take all the cushions off the couch and the chair to build her own interpretation of a jumping gym. And so she did. All by herself. She had a ball!
