Lydia learns a lot by imitating. She got my brush recently and went to town on her hair. She’s not seen me use a brush much, but she still knew just what to do. Here she is in action, plus the resulting Hollywood do (pre-haircut).
Lydia loves her baby Eugenio. She hugs him and carries him around a lot. She even drives him places, well, around the house mostly. ![]()
Oh yeah, in the pix you’ll see Lydia’s big scrape and chichote. She fell on her sweet little pumpkin head on the concrete today, not once, but three times. She gets more daring every day, and these are some of the unfortunate consequences. :-/
It’s been some time since we’ve had an actual update about Lydia. So here it goes…
She’s now not only running but getting quite skilled at climbing stairs. She’s been working on this for a few months now. She still climbs using her hands, but now there’s speed. And, she’s working on going down, too. We still spot her, as she’s not an expert, but I’m guessing it won’t be long before she is.
Lydia is now a great climber. She climbs all over the playgrounds and now can climb on all the living room chairs and sofa.
Talking is something that she’s still working on. She loves to say “this” (which is more like “issss”) and point at things to ask what it is. Now she’s started pointing at things while in the car. She loves pointing out trucks. Man, she loves trucks. We always watch the garbage truck go by, and anything else, for that matter.
Other things she says are “yes” and “juice” (which sounds more like “jssss” or just “ssss”). She’ll say “ous” for outside. One day she said “mas”. Anything that ends in “s” is a favorite for her.
Lydia is getting good at communicating. She uses a combination of talking, pointing, grunting, waving, and nodding. She goes to her chair and nods (translation= I’m hungry). She points to her ipod and speakers and nods (translation= I want to listen to my music). She points to the chupi and nods (translation= I want the chupi) and so on and so forth. When she wants to go somewhere she points and says “isss” (this). If we follow her she’ll show us just what she wants. She waves when she’s ready to leave. She says “ssss” for juice when she’s thirsty.
She’s also learning to sing with Daddy. He sings “row, row, row your boat” and shakes the maracas book. And then Lydia says “ra, ra, ra” while shaking her hand. Cute.
We had fun this weekend when we went to one of our favorite annual festivals, the Inman Park Festival, not too far from us. This was Lydia’s first.
She enjoyed it. While walking around the festival, we looked at the booths, people and dogs. We also listened to music, got a balloon dog, and then took a break. We sat under the shade of a large tree in the park and had our brown bag lunch. Lydia knew just what to do when I put the blanket down on the grass, though we’d never done that before. What a smarty pants. She played on the blanket, walked around, and loved having the picnic. After a while we headed home when it was obvious she was hot (and cranky). Lydia helped push the stroller part of the way back.
It was a hot, sunny day. Next year I hope to stay for the best part, the parade!
Lydia loves playing outside with the flora. She’d love to play to the fauna, too, but they have a choice, they are mobile. Here she is having some of her adventures.
Lydia and Daddy are always coming up with fun, creative, new games (out of just about anything). And, now that Lydia’s becoming an expert at riding toys at the church park, she tries to ride just about anything. A few days ago, she found the TP, and with Daddy’s help, created the new TP Cruiser. (I can’t take credit for the naming. That would be the ever-so-witty, Daddy who named it.)
Since Lydia’s been going to the church park, she’s learned a lot about pushing, riding and pulling toys. And yesterday she came up with a new use for a common item: a computer mouse. She’s made it a pull toy. She had tons of fun playing with it yesterday. Wonder what else she’ll reinterpret?
